1. Identify the maker and exact release

Start by separating the anime character’s name from the product’s identity. A single character may appear in prize figures, articulated figures, scale figures and special editions. Record the manufacturer, product line, scale or dimensions, model name and release version. Search the manufacturer’s own catalogue for an exact match.

For example, Good Smile Company publishes product information and warnings about counterfeit Nendoroids and other figure lines. Its guidance explains that some imitation products reuse official-looking names and branding. Read Good Smile Company’s official bootleg guidance.

2. Treat photos, stickers and unusually low prices as clues—not proof

Look closely at packaging, copyright text, moulding, paint and included accessories. However, product photos may not show the item that will be shipped. Good Smile warns that counterfeit products can use convincing logos. It also says not all genuine products have a licence sticker; packaging and stickers may vary with release date or region. Therefore, a missing or different sticker alone does not establish that an item is fake.

If a listing seems dramatically cheaper than comparable listings, investigate why. Differences in size, edition, condition, preorder status and shipping origin can explain some price gaps. Never conclude authenticity from price alone.

Manufacturer verification limit: Good Smile Company says its support team cannot authenticate an item before purchase when the buyer does not have it in hand. After purchase, a query may require photographs of the box, the figure and the copyright marking on the base. A missing hologram or licence sticker by itself does not mean counterfeit: labels may be absent, printed on the packaging or different across editions and regions. 3. Compare seller types for buyers in India

Marketplaces and specialist collectors’ shops each require checking. On a marketplace, verify the individual seller rather than relying only on the platform’s name. 4. Calculate the real price delivered to India

Compare the checkout amount rather than the headline price. Ask whether the item is physically stocked in India or is being imported. International shipments may bring extra duties, tax or handling fees depending on circumstances. Confirm who is responsible for these charges, whether they are already included and how a delayed or undelivered shipment is handled.

Simple comparison: listed item price + shipping + disclosed fees + applicable import costs = estimated delivered cost. Do not publish a “cheapest store” ranking without matching equivalent models and recording a verification date.

5. What to check on delivery

Inspect the parcel promptly and retain its packaging. Record any damage and follow the store’s reporting deadline. If you suspect a Good Smile counterfeit, its support guidance requests photographs of the packaging, the figure and copyright markings when investigating. Consult the manufacturer directly rather than relying on social-media guesses.

Does a figure without a hologram sticker have to be fake?

A useful price comparison must compare the same product and the complete amount paid—not simply two screenshots of prices.

Match equivalent products first

For clothing, compare brand, style, fabric, size and print. For figures, match manufacturer, product line, version and condition. Different-sized figures or different editions cannot be declared cheaper alternatives without explaining the differences.

Calculate the delivered total

A simple method is item price plus delivery fee plus applicable checkout or import charges. A ₹899 product with ₹150 shipping has a ₹1,049 subtotal before other applicable costs; a ₹999 item with free shipping might be cheaper overall.

Check stock and preorder timing

A sold-out listing is not a purchasable offer. A preorder may require a deposit and months of waiting, unlike stock that can ship immediately. Record availability when comparing.

Treat percentage discounts cautiously

Compare identical product specifications and verify the basis for any crossed-out reference price. An advertised 50 percent discount does not prove the product is good value.

Build a repeatable comparison record

Track seller, full product name, model or SKU, verified date, delivery location, displayed price, shipping, returns and a link to the offer. Recheck the checkout before buying.

Worked example: why headline price is not enough

The figures below are hypothetical for demonstration; they are not quotes from an actual Indian retailer and do not include every possible tax or payment fee.

Real research example: an inconsistent price is not a discount

In our 3 November 2026 research notes, a Naruto Uchiha T-shirt listing from The Souled Store displayed both ₹1,199 and ₹1,299 in different page fields. A One Piece Zoro oversized T-shirt listing similarly showed ₹499 and ₹599 in differing fields. These are unresolved listing observations, not confirmed live prices and not evidence of a current promotion.

When a listing conflicts with itself, first select the actual size, then inspect its latest product-page price and final cart total. Record which figure is displayed at checkout; do not publish a price-drop percentage from two contradictory snippets. Save any applicable delivery, returns and coupon restrictions. The two T-shirts above are different products, so they should not be presented as like-for-like competing offers.

Regular versus oversized

An oversized design deliberately gives extra room in the chest, sleeves and shoulders. Do not automatically size up: a manufacturer’s oversized M can feel wider than a regular L. Read garment measurements and model-fit notes, not just the fit label.

Fabric and print considerations

Look for fabric composition, washing instructions, and what kind of print the retailer describes. A heavyweight fabric is not automatically more comfortable in hot weather. Avoid claiming print durability without testing.

India-specific checkout checks

Confirm serviceability for your PIN code, shipping fee, cash-on-delivery restrictions if any, exchange window, size availability and whether sale items are returnable. Take a screenshot of the size chart used when ordering.

A practical sizing decision

If two sizes seem plausible, compare your actual shirt measurements to both. If the product page supplies no garment dimensions, ask the seller rather than guessing. Accessories and collectibles follow different comparison criteria.

A clothing size label is only useful when you know the garment measurements. Compare a T-shirt you already wear comfortably with the seller’s chart for the exact design and fit. Do not assume two anime shirts from the same store have identical cuts.

4. Check the payment provider: a bank or card issuer may have a separate dispute process and deadline; ask it directly rather than assuming a refund is guaranteed.

Be especially cautious about unsolicited payment links and messages asking for OTPs or remote-access apps. An official-looking shop name or character image does not verify the identity of the person requesting payment.
